LLM–MCP Design Framework Applied to Urban Public Space

Context
ZEYN — Professional Project
Role

Location
Shanghai, China
Status
ONGOING
Renovated public space with pink steel canopy and seating

Overview

Renovation of two aging urban public spaces in Pudong, Shanghai — the Dongsheng Party-and-Masses Center and the Leyou Deck at Longyang Huayuan. The project is the first application of an LLM–MCP integrated design framework to real urban public-space projects: within Rhino/Grasshopper, AI-driven interaction and parametric execution connect semantic intent directly to geometric generation. In the design phase the framework supports rapid iteration, multi-scheme evaluation and real-time optimisation, significantly reducing manual modelling cost while expanding the boundary of design exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Translating design concepts into structured, executable parametric logic
  • Parametric modelling and AI workflow setup (Cursor / LLM → MCP → Grasshopper)
  • Multi-scheme generation and comparison
  • Detailed design and on-site delivery lead

Methodology

  • LLM–MCP integrated framework: semantic capture, real-time AI–model interaction and parametric execution translate design intent into geometric outcomes
  • Spatial rules structured as executable commands, narrowing the semantic gap between language and geometry
  • Two-phase evaluation across Cursor, Rhino and Grasshopper: basic plan generation and parameter control, then terrain-aware generation under complex spatial conditions
